SPORTS PHYSICALS

The Medical Specialty Center offers sports physicals at no cost for communities that we serve. Every participant in a school sports team is required to complete a pre-participation physical examination, also called sports physicals.

A sports physical allows a physician to identify any conditions that might keep the athlete out of the game or affect performance. Athletes should have a physical six weeks before the start of the sport season; however this can vary due to changing sport seasons. This timing provides an opportunity to address an existing injury or improve conditioning prior to participation in the activity.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICALS

The Medical Specialty Center offers job candidates and employees medical and physical examinations on a walk-in basis to help companies answer the question: "Does this person have the physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of this job?"

Physical examination is the process by which a doctor investigates the body of a patient for signs of disease. It generally follows the taking of the medical history - an account of the symptoms as experienced by the patient. Together with the medical history, the physical examination aids in determining the correct diagnosis and devising the treatment plan.

Our pre-employment physicals can include:

• Regulatory and Compliance Examinations - establish a medical baseline for employees according to certain regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.), and include periodic medical monitoring when indicated.
• Fitness-For-Duty Examinations - confirm that employees returning from medical leave can perform their job duties.
• Health Risk Assessments - confirm the biometric numbers/scores of employees as part of long-term health and wellness, and indicate potential areas of health risk.

Physicians will carefully review your medical and occupational history before proceeding with the physical examination. A thorough medical examination typically includes the following:

• Complete occupational/medical history
• Musculoskeletal examination
• Evaluation of the respiratory system
• Gastrointestinal examination
• Examination of head, eyes, ears, nose, and throat
• Skin and lymphatic examination
• Neurological evaluation
• Evaluation of the cardiovascular system
• Visual acuity and vital signs, including blood pressure, urine dip test

CHILD HEALTH and DISABILITY PROGRAM (CHDP)

The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) is a preventive program that delivers periodic health assessments and services to low income children and youth in California. CHDP provides care coordination to assist families with medical appointment scheduling, transportation, and access to diagnostic and treatment services. Health assessments are provided by enrolled private physicians, local health departments, community clinics, managed care plans, and some local school districts.

PREOPERATIVE

The preoperative screening at the Medical Specialty Center is designed exclusively to assess patients before surgery. The screening process includes, but is not limited to, a physical exam, laboratory testing, radiology, cardiology and pulmonary clearance if needed. You will receive all pre-operation instructions during the preoperative process. This process is scheduled by your surgical provider.
